DAY 2: Orofacial Pain: Purposeful Exam to Confident Diagnosis
Tagline: Is it TMD or is it something more sinister??
Date and Time: 10th August 2024 / 8am to 5pm with 1 hour luncheon
Instructor: Dr. Kimberly Wright, DMD, MAGD
CE Hours: 8 hours Hands-on
Facial pain is the black hole in all of medicine. Our physician colleagues know little about teeth and jaw pain and we know little about non-odontogenic issues which could generate facial pain. Patients suffering from orofacial pain often become frustrated by the circle of referrals with no help for their pain. This course will help dentists organize and develop an examination system that will better equip them to rule out non-odontogenic and non-musculoskeletal pain so that the dentist is able to either effectively diagnosis and treat the patient’s pain or refer the patient to the most appropriate health care practitioner.
Morning lecture will focus on performing a systematic examination of the facial pain patient. Then progress to diagnosing the most common temporomandibular disorders and their initial treatments. Afternoon will be observing the examination process in order to make a diagnosis and determine the most appropriate initial treatment options.
